#.blogit #extension #macos #quicklook #selection | Several years ago Apple curtailed the ability to select text in Quick Look previews, much to my dismay. A new extension for macOS brings text selection back, at least to source code and Markdown previews. It also renders Markdown and does source code highlighting (with line numbers). But the big deal for me is the text selection. Latest version also works well with HoudahSpot, Forklift, and Path Finder's Quick Look previews.

I banged my head over handling HTML text node selection highlighting for an hour before one more search turned this up. It handles bisecting and merging ranges and crossing nodes, provides an amazing API and took some major headache out of a project for me. Tim Down is my hero today.

New York Times-Style Text Selection Widget Using MooTools

#Inspiration #javascript #jquery #mootools #selection | Aaron Newton made a great request to me last week: why not make my MooTools Documentation Bookmarklet function more like the New York Time’s text selection widget. NYT’s text selection widget listens for text selection and presents the user with a “search” icon they may click on to learn more about that term. I’ve tried to answer that challenge — not in bookmarklet form but in website widget form.
